Africa-Press – Rwanda. The Rwanda Defence Force (RDF) on Wednesday, March 27, hosted thirty defence attachés and associates accredited to Rwanda for its quarterly security briefing at the headquarters in Kimihurura.

The briefing centred around new changes in laws governing the RDF and structure, the internal and external security situation as well as updates on RDF operations in Mozambique and the Central African Republic (CAR), according to a statement by the RDF.

The participants were welcomed by the Director General of International Military Cooperation in the Ministry of Defence, Brig Gen Patrick Karuretwa.

They were briefed on the new changes in laws governing the RDF and new structure; the internal and external security situation; updates on RDF operations in Mozambique and CAR.

Karuretwa thanked the defence attachés for their growing participation and emphasized the importance of conducting security briefings to further enhance the defence cooperation and mutual understanding.

The participants had the opportunity to ask questions and clarifications mainly focusing on regional security dynamics.

Rwanda deployed troops to Mozambique’s northern province of Cabo Delgado in July 2021 at the request of Maputo. Operations by Rwandan and Mozambican armed forces have pacified most of the territory that had been destabilised by Islamic State-linked terrorists.

Over 250,000 residents, who had been displaced by terrorist attacks, returned to their homes by December 2023.

In the CAR, operations by Rwandan special forces, deployed under a bilateral arrangement in December 2020, were critical in blocking the advance on the capital Bangui of the Coalition of Patriots for Change, a rebel alliance led by former president François Bozize.
