Rubavu town is safe for festive season- Mayor

Africa-Press – Rwanda. Mayor Ildephonse Kambogo has assured people coming for the festive season in Rubavu District to feel comfortable as safety is granted.

“Rubavu town is safe. I recently held talks with the Mayor of Goma and we shared information, life is going on as usual. It is obvious that Rwandans want to know about the security before coming to Rubavu, but I want to assure you that it is safe, whether you travel day and night. Relations with Congolese people in Goma are good,” he said.

Previously, the Minister of Interior, Alfred Gasana, also told The New Times that security is maintained, assuring Rwandans that all measures have been taken to ensure that the border community is safe.

“Rubavu and other districts bordering Democratic Republic of Congo (RDC) are safe since measures for maintaining security and sovereignty have been taken.”

“Rwandans are safe, tourists are free to travel in Rubavu and other sectors bordering our neighboring country, people should feel at home just like in any other districts. There is no security issue,” he said.

Joint community work with Congolese

Rubavu and Goma residents have a lot of things they share in common such as close family relationships.

The two mayors have, on different occasions, met and always interacted while addressing problems of their residents, Kambogo said.
