Africa-Press – Rwanda. Rwanda Security Force (RSF) Joint Task Force Commander, Maj Gen Emmy Ruvusha, on Friday, September 12, participated in a Joint Operational Coordination Meeting with the Mozambique Armed Forces (FADM) in Pemba, Cabo Delgado Province, to review the security situation in the region.

Since 2022, at the request of the Mozambican government, Rwanda deployed forces to Cabo Delgado Province, Mozambique, to help combat ISIS-linked terrorism and insecurity.

In collaboration with Mozambican forces, Rwandan troops fought and dislodged the terror groups from several towns including their main bases in Mocimboa da Praia and other localities that include Awasse, Palma, Quionga, Chinda, Mbau, Mpalanganha, Tete, Njama, Quelimane, and Siri.

According to a statement released RDF via its official X account on Friday, the security review session was chaired by FADM Army Commander, Maj Gen André Rafael Mahunguane, aiming at assessing and exchanging views on the prevailing security conditions in Cabo Delgado.

“The meeting was held with the objective of assessing and exchanging views on the prevailing security situation in Cabo Delgado, focusing on the progress made by the RSF and FADM in stabilising the northernmost areas that are most affected by terrorism,” RDF’s statement read.

“Both parties agreed to intensify joint operations in order to maintain peace and stability in the region.”

The session followed an earlier engagement on August 27, when Maj Gen Ruvusha hosted Maj Gen Mahunguane at RSF Headquarters in Mocimboa da Praia, Cabo Delgado.

Last month, Mozambican President Daniel Chapo had a working visit to Rwanda, where he met with President Paul Kagame.

The two heads of state held bilateral discussions that resulted in the signing of two agreements, including one on security cooperation.

President Chapo’s visit, his first since being elected in October 2024, followed a series of engagements between officials from both governments, including those from the ministries of defence, foreign affairs, and agriculture.
