The commemoration event was held in Mocimboa Da Praia town

Cipriano also thanked Rwanda Security Forces for their dedication in bringing stability and fighting terrorism in Cabo Delgado province.

Rwanda Security Forces Commander, Maj Gen Emmy Ruvusha, stated that the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi resulted from an ideology that developed from ethnic divisions introduced by Belgian colonisers, who manipulated existing social classes. These divisions, fuelled by decades of bad governance culminated in the Genocide that claimed more than one million lives.

Ruvusha added that Rwanda Patriotic Army, the military wing of the RPF-Inkotanyi fought to liberate Rwandans and stopped the genocide while the international community failed to intervene at a time when Rwandans were in desperate need of protection.

He reminded the participants that Rwandans have committed to maintaining peace, unity and stability to make sure that what happened in 1994 never happens again.
