Africa-Press – Rwanda. Rwanda’s High Commissioner in Mozambique, Donath Ndamage, on Wednesday, March 27, conducted a one-day visit to Mocimboa da Praia, the headquarters of Rwanda Security Forces in Mozambique’s northernmost province of Cabo Delgado.

A statement by the Ministry of Defence indicates that the purpose of the visit was to interact with the RSF commanders and gain factual information on the overview of the security situation in Cabo Delgado Province.

Ndamage was accorded a very warm reception by the RSF Joint Task Force Commander, Maj Gen Alex Kagame, who briefed him on the current security situation in the Rwandan troops’ area of responsibility and in Cabo Delgado Province in general.

“The High Commissioner appreciated the reception accorded to him and commended the achievements made by RSF since deployment of Rwanda Security Forces in Cabo Delgado Mozambique. He promised diplomatic advocacy and collaboration to ensure effective implementation of RSF responsibilities,” reads the statement.

At the request of the Mozambican government, in July 2021, Rwanda deployed 1,000 military and police officers to Cabo Delgado province where Islamist terrorists had wreaked havoc for half a decade, killing civilians and displacing hundreds of thousands.

Within the first month, Rwandan and Mozambican troops repulsed the terrorists from major strongholds including the key port city of Mocimboa da Praia which used to be the terrorists’ headquarters.
