Africa-Press – Rwanda. Rwanda’s first female pilot, Esther Mbabazi, has been inducted into the Captain’s Club of the International Society of Women Airline Pilots (ISA+21).
The event took place on September 25, in the US State of Virginia.
It is understood that the 35-year-old has flown RwandAir’s Airbus A330 and CRJ 900 as a First Officer and her induction means she can now command on the Boeing 737 fleet.

The induction into the club is a recognition of a female pilot’s work, dedication, and skills that have been demonstrated in order to achieve a command rank.
ISA+21 is an organisation considered as a global voice to inspire, support and advocate for female airline pilots worldwide.
As part of the induction, each inductee is awarded a plaque inscribed with her name, airline, aircraft type, and date she signed her first dispatch release on her own, it indicated.

New Captain’s Club applicants must be members in good standing, not have received a plaque for a previous upgrade, attend an ISA+21 conference in order to be inducted and receive a plaque.
To join the club, an applicant fills in information on the organisation’s website, including their names, email, date of first unsupervised command, make and model of aircraft on that day, and the airline they flew it for.
The International Society of Women Airline Pilots has over 900 members representing 90 airlines from around the globe, according to data from its website.
