Top govt leaders arrive in Kigali for CHOGM

Africa-Press – Rwanda. Heads of Government from around the Commonwealth have begun to arrive in the Rwandan capital Kigali for the 26th Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM).

Besides Prince Charles, the designated next head of the Commonwealth who arrived Tuesday evening, along with her wife Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, at least five prime ministers are also in town.

They include; Siaosi Sovaleni (Tonga), Moeketsi Majoro and his wife Masekoalane Majoro (Lesotho); Gaston Browne (Antigua and Barbuda); Philip Edward Davis (Bahamas); and Fiame Naomi Mata’afa (Samoa).

Meanwhile, Jamaica’s Prime Minister Andrew Holness announced on twitter that he had also set off for Rwanda, while a source at the British High Commission in Kigali said UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson was also expected on Wednesday.

At least 35 Heads of State and Government are due to attend the main leaders’ session on Friday.

President Paul Kagame is set to take over as the Chair-In-Office of the Commonwealth from Prime Minister Johnson for the next two years.
