Africa-Press – Rwanda. APR Handball Club head coach Anaclet Bagirishya is eyeing revenge against defending champions Police Handball Club when the two sides face-off in the group stages of Coupe du Rwanda on Friday at Kimisagara Gymnasium.
APR will kick off their group campaign against GS Kimisagara at 10:00 a.m., before facing long-time rivals Police at 4:30 p.m.
Police, fresh from clinching the national league title, are coming into the tournament with confidence, having defeated APR three times in a row during the recent playoff matches.
“It was a tough season for us, especially during the playoffs. But we need to bounce back, regain our morale, and try to win this match, which could help us finish at the top of the group,” Bagirishya said.
Police HC coach Antoine Ntabanganyimana acknowledged the challenge ahead, noting APR’s strength and determination.
“We know it will be a tough match. APR will come hungry for a win, but we are prepared. Our goal is to win both matches and finish top of the group, which would give us a better chance in the semi-finals,” he said.
Other group stage fixtures on Friday include UB Sports taking on Nyakabanda, followed by UB Sports facing ADEGI. ADEGI will also play Nyakabanda in the final match of the day.
The group stage matches will be played on Friday, the semi-finals on Saturday at Petit Stade Amahoro in Remera, and the finals on Sunday.
The last edition of the Coupe du Rwanda was held in 2023. APR HC won the men’s title after beating ES Kigoma 37-17, while the women’s crown went to Kiziguro SS, who defeated E.S.C. Nyamagabe 36-21.
