Africa-Press – Rwanda. The Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA) on Tuesday, August 5, announced that 12 teams, including Rwanda’s APR FC, will take part in the 2025 CECAFA Kagame Cup tournament.
The tournament, which brings together clubs from CECAFA member countries, will be held in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, from September 2-5.
Host nation Tanzania will field two teams Young Africans SC and Simba SC while another guest side out of CECAFA Zone has also been invited.
Three-time champions APR FC will again represent Rwanda at the regional club football competition looking to win it for the fourth time. In 2024, they finished as runners-up after losing to Zambia’s Red Arrows on penalties in the final held in Zanzibar.
The teams expected to participate include Vipers SC (Uganda), El Merriekh SC Bentiu (South Sudan), Mlandege SC (Zanzibar), Al Hilal (Sudan), Kenya Police FC (Kenya), Ethiopia Insurance (Ethiopia), Mogadishu City Club (Somalia), APR FC (Rwanda), Aigle Noir FC (Burundi), Young Africans SC, Simba SC (Tanzania), ASAS Djibouti Telecom (Djibouti).
