It will be a double clash of titans between two domestic basketball heavyweights in Rwanda as APR and Rwanda Energy Group (REG) renew rivalry in both men and women’s topflight basketball league on Friday night, March 29, at Lycee de Kigali (LDK) Gymnasium.
Both teams (men and women) will be rubbing shoulders in the league for the first time this season in what promises to be rematches of the 2023 finals which both ended in favor of APR who won both the men and women’s championships at the expense of REG.
APR were crowned champions after sweeping REG (4-0) in the best-of-seven playoff finals while their sisters clinched the title after beating REG Women 62-61 in Game 5 to win the best-of-seven finals series 4-1.
The teams are now back in action on Good Friday with so much at stake from the two matchups.
After suffering a 73-59 loss to Patriots last week in the men’s basketball league, APR returned to winning ways by beating Espoir 113-88 on Wednesday night at LDK Gymnasium to go top of the table with 15 points from 8 games, just one point clear of Patriots who have a match to spare.

Mazen Trakh’s side play REG who lie in third place with 11 points from six games, having lost one game (against Patriots) and won five.
While APR will be without American point guard Michael Dixon who joined Egyptian side Al Ittihad Alexandria early this week, REG will be boosted by the arrival of new signing in American point guard Antino Jackson.
The same basketball powerhouses will lock horns in the women’s basketball league in a 6pm fixture that will take place at the same venue.
The Rwanda basketball League is currently in its first round, after which the playoffs will be played among the top four teams, the semifinals will be played in the best of five series, while the finals will be in a best-of-seven format.
The men’s champions will represent Rwanda at the 2025 season of the Basketball Africa League (BAL).
