Africa-Press – Rwanda. APR chairman Brig Gen Deo Rusanganwa has said that his club has reach an agreement with a new coach to replace Darko Novic.
The Rwandan champions finished the 2024/25 season without a head coach after Serbian gaffer Darko Novic left the club on mutual agreement.
Rusanganwa told the press that he won’t reveal the name of the new head coach ‘until he puts pen to paper’ but veteran Moroccan coach Abderrahim Talib is leading the race to land the job, according to reports and could be announced before the end of the month.
Since 2007, Talib, 61, coached 13 teams including Morocco’s powerhouses RS Berkane, AS FAR and Wydad Athletic Club.
Meanwhile, Rusanganwa said the club has only two foreign players left, in addition to Ugandan star Ronald Ssekiganda who signed in January, to complete their transfer business.
Among the two players who are the club’s radar are a striker and playmaker (number 10).
Reports also indicate that defender Omborenga Fitina is on the verge of the returning to the army side after just one season with Rayon Sports. The club chairman admitted that talks happened but he has not signed yet.
Omborenga joined Rayon in July 2024 on a two-year deal. He, however, handed in a transfer request pushing to force a move out of the club after falling out with club management in May.
Should he sign, he would become club’s sixth signing after Adolphe Hakizimana, Hakim Bugingo, Hadji Iraguha and Pacifique Ngabonziza, and Ronald Ssekiganda.
Right back, Jean Bosco Akayezu is wanted by Police FC. Akayezu has parted ways with AS Kigali.
