Africa-Press – Rwanda. APR’s men and women volleyball teams departed Kigali for Tanzania on Tuesday, October 8, where they are set to participate at the Nyerere International Championship which kicked off in Moshi on Wednesday, October 9.
The tournament, which runs through October 14, is organised annually by Tanzania Amateur Volleyball Association (TAVA) on the occasion of commemorating Tanzania’s first president Mwalimu Julius Kambalage Nyerere.
Both teams left Kigali on Tuesday night, heading to Moshi via Rusumo border in a road trip that covered a distance of 1171km on a bus.
The tournament will feature clubs from Rwanda, Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Burundi and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
APR, who have been participating in the competition since 2017, will be represented in both the men and women’s categories. and since 2017.
The army side won the 2023 edition in men’s category after beating Rukinzo VC of Burundi 3-1 while Rwanda Revenue Authority(RRA) clinched the women’s trophy after easing past APR WVC 3-0 in the final.
