Africa-Press – Rwanda. AS Kigali central defender Franklin Onyeabor says their aim is to win the 2024/2025 Peace Cup trophy.

The Nigerian guardsman rescued the Citizens at Umuganda Stadium in Rubavu on Wednesday, January 22 as his two goals propelled them to a 3-1 win over Etincelles. AS Kigali thus sailed through to the next round on a 5-4 aggregate.

“Our aim is to lift the Peace CUP again and return to Africa (Confederations Cup). We last won the Peace Cup in 2022. We can go all out and make it happen again,” Onyeabor told Times Sport

AS Kigali had been earlier outplayed and beaten 3-2 by Etincelles in the first leg. Going into the return fixture, Onyeabor mentioned that they had no alternative than to win and progress to the round of 16.

“We were determined to win the return game. That was the only option we had to remain in the Peace Cup. We worked hard and thank God we came out victorious,” he noted.

On his stunning two goals which gave the Citizens the hard fought victory over Etincelles, Onyeabor mentioned he is pleased with his exploits and hopes to do more.

“I feel really great and proud of myself to have given my team the victory, and I will continue to work hard to improve more and always give my best to the Citizens,” he added.

The draw for the round of 16 for the 2024/25 Peace Cup competition will be held on Friday, January 24.
