APR men and women’s basketball clubs were crowned winners of the 2024 basketball Genocide Memorial tournament on Saturday night at BK Arena.

Mazen Trakh APR men’s team defeated archrivals Patriots 80-63 in an epic final clash that followed the women’s final which saw the army side again win the trophy after beating Rwanda Energy Group (REG) 86-81 after overtime in the finals.

APR women’s basketball club were crowned winners of the 2024 basketball Genocide Memorial tournament on Saturday night at BK Arena.

In men’s final, APR come into the final game seeking revenge after losing to Patriots in first round of Rwanda Basketball League.

Trakh’s side won the first two quarters 25-17 and 19-12, respectively, to go into half-time with a 44-29 lead.

From the break, APR continued to lead the third quarter 18-14 as they took control of the game. Henry Mwinuka’s Patriots got it too late to make a comeback despite claiming the fourth quarter 20-18 which was not enough to change the result as APR finished the campaign as winners.

Guard Noel Obadiah was again the man of the show after contributing a game high 13 points and 3 rebounds while Zion Styles added 13 points and 2 rebounds.

Point guard Olivier Turatsinze was the best scorer on the Patriots side, dropping 21 points. While Dieudonné Ndizeye added 14 points.

Meanwhile, in the women’s category, APR had the last laugh after defeating REG 86-81 (23-14,22-22,18-16,9-29 and 14-9). Sandra Kantore was the highest scorer of the game with 19 points.
