Africa-Press – Rwanda. American point guard Adonis Filer scored game high 27 points as APR began their title defense with a dominant 98-67 win over newcomers Kepler in their first game of the Rwanda Basketball League held Friday night at Lycée de Kigali Gymnasium.
Filer was at the top of his game on his first competitive match in the colors of APR who signed him in October 2023 hoping to count on his services this season, especially during the forthcoming 2024 Basketball Africa League (APR).
Bush Wamukota and Michael Dixon contributed 23 and 19 points respectively for the military side while American point guard Chad Bowie led Kepler’s scoring with 23 points with Cyiza Twizeyimana adding14 points.
APR imposed their dominance from the very beginning of the game, winning the first quarter 25-13 and the second 22-21 as they opened a 13-point lead with 47-34 at the break.
Mazen Trakh’s maintained their dominance in the second half as they took the third quarter 25-11 and the fourth 26-22 to walk away with a 98-67 victory.
Meanwhile, Rwanda Energy Group (REG) also started the new season in a positive note, beating Inspired Generation 92-43 in a game that officially opened the new basketball league season.
The action continues Saturday, February 10, when Espoir and United Generation Basketball (UGB) go head-to-head. On Sunday, Kigali Titans will host Orion with Patriots set to go up against Tigers.
All the matchups will take place at Lycée de Kigali Gymnasium.
