Four-time champions Patriots, on Friday evening, beat bitter rivals Rwanda Energy Group (REG) 83-78 to complete a double over them this season.
Patriots’ small forward Dieudonné Ndizeye contributed a game high 19 points as his side overcame the defending champions to once again showcase that they are a force to reckon with.
The Patriots won the first quarter 14-10 and drew the second one 25-25 to go into half time break leading on 35-39 points.
In the second half, REG bounced back to claim the third quarter 26-22, but a combination of Kenny Gasana, Ntore Habimana and Kendall Gray put up effort to make sure the Patriots wins the last quarter on 22-17 and walk away with the victory.
Bernard Olouch, the head coach of the Patriots said the win was a good step forward, and a boost for them.
Besides DieudonnĂ© Ndizeye’s scoring exploits for Patriots, fellow players Ntore Habimana and Kendall Gray added 18 and 16 points respectively.
Meanwhile, on the same day, APR beat United Generation Basketball (UGB) 86-42.
