Africa-Press – Rwanda. Police FC coach Ben Moussa has admitted that his team is growing hungrier for trophies and, after winning Inkera y’Abahizi pre-season tournament, the focus now turns to the Rwanda Premier League.
Moussa and his Police FC charges took the trophy away from AS Kigali and Azam FC on most goals scored in the tournament after the three teams finished level on six points each.
The match that decided the trophy saw the law enforcers beat AS Kigali 5-3 on penalty shootouts, after the encounter ended goalless in regulation time.
After collecting his first trophy, Moussa could not hide his delight but quickly turned the focus to the team’s bigger objectives.
“Thank God for these results, and also for winning this trophy. We finished the tournament on top of the table and we are now focused on the league matches.” Moussa said.
The Tunisian coach described topping the tournament as “a better starting point to build a strong team for the future,” pointing to the team’s consistency as proof of their rising stature to the top on the domestic level.
“We can build on this because we wanted to see the real picture of our team and help the players to have confidence. I am happy with the response from players but we still have long way to go as league is in the corner and we have to keep the same pace, dream even bigger.”
Tournament winners were awarded Rwf5 million, while Tanzanian outfit Azam FC, who climbed to second after beating APR FC 2-0 on Sunday, received a cheque of Rwf2 million.
AS Kigali finished third while APR FC finished at the bottom of the tournament with 0 points, having lost all three games.
With the league campaign set for kick off on September 12, Moussa is already determined to succeed where his predecessors failed by delivering the title to the club which has never won it before.
He won it before with APR FC and he still believes he can prove his worth and win it with Police as well.
