Africa-Press – Rwanda. Rwanda international center-back Prince Buregeya says it is a dream come true after his side, Nairobi United, reached the group stage of the CAF Confederation Cup.
The Kenyan side secured their historic qualification on Sunday after defeating Tunisia’s Étoile Sportive du Sahel 7-6 on penalties, following a 2-2 aggregate draw over two legs.
Buregeya, who joined Nairobi United earlier this year, expressed his joy at achieving one of his long-held ambitions.
“It is something I thank God for because only He can make it happen. It’s something I have always wanted to achieve. In the end, it’s all because of God. I am very happy,” he said.
The 24-year-old defender attributed the team’s success to unity and strong leadership.
“We achieved this because the team is united both on and off the pitch, and we have a good coach. God helps those who work together,” he added.
Nairobi United, who earned promotion from Kenya’s second division last season, captured headlines after winning the Mozzabet Cup, defeating Gor Mahia 2–1 in the final, a victory that secured their place in continental competition.
Buregeya has represented Rwanda at various levels, including the U17, U20, and U23 national teams, captaining each, and has also featured for the senior team, Amavubi. At club level, he previously played for APR FC and AS Kigali.
Despite his recent achievements, Buregeya insists he is still hungry for more.
“I’m happy with what I’ve achieved so far, but I haven’t reached my ultimate goal yet. I want to make a real impact in CAF competitions,” he noted.
Buregeya began his football journey in 2015 with Eagles Academy, later joining Intare Academy and then APR Academy, before being promoted to the senior APR FC team.
“Always have a goal. Know what you want before you start anything, and make the sky your limit,” he advised.
