Africa-Press – Rwanda. APR FC Honorary Chairman Gen Mubarakh Muganga that the team can eliminate Pyramids FC in the CAF Champions League.
APR were twice in a row eliminated by Pyramids from the preliminary rounds of the Champions League. During the previous season, the Egyptian side knocked out the Rwandan champions out of the second round and went on to win the competition for the first time in their history.
The CAF Champions League draw, which took place in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, on Saturday, August 9, again saw the two teams drawn in the preliminary round, a development that left football pundits and club fans alike stunned, sparking fears that APR could be eliminated again without reaching the group stages.
However, in a short message that he sent to B&B Kigali FM, Muganga said that there is no doubt that the Egyptians will be eliminated this time.
Muganga admits it was “not a good draw” for APR but again warned that the results could this time round go the other way round.
“It is not a bad draw either and I want to tell you that, our team, can eliminate Pyramids FC. So, APR FC fans, do not be discouraged,” he said.
APR will first host Pyramid September 19–21 Kigali before visiting the Africa champions in second leg in Egypt a week later.
The second qualifying round will be played on October 17-19 for the first leg, while the second leg will be played on 24-26 October.
