Africa-Press – Rwanda. Rwanda has been drawn in Group A alongside Algeria, Zambia and Nigeria in the 2026 African Men’s Handball Championship scheduled in Kigali from January 21-31, 2026.

The draw for the 16-team tournament took place at Amahoro Stadium in Kigali on Friday, November 14.

The ceremony was attended by the Minister of State in the Ministry of Sports, Rwego Ngarambe; First Vice President of the Confederation of African Handball Associations (CAHB), Medhat El-Beltagy and President of Rwanda Handball Federation (FERWAHAND) Alfred Twahirwa among other guests.

Rwanda, the hosts of the tournament, has been draws in Group A with 2024 finalists Algeria Zambia and Nigeria while Group B consists of Uganda, Gabon, Angola and Egypt.

Group C includes Kenya, Cameroon, Guinea and holders Tunisia, while Group D consists of Benin, Congo Brazzaville, Morocco and Cape Verde.

Rwanda will play the opening match of the tournament against Zambia on 21 January 2026.

The top five ranked teams in the tournament will qualify for the World Cup.

This is the second time Rwanda will be playing in the Men’s Handball African Cup after Egypt in 2024.

Egypt, who were on home soil, won the tournament for the ninth time, while Rwanda finished 14th out of 16 countries.
