Cycling: Ferwacy to introduce new races this year

Africa-Press – Rwanda. Rwanda Cycling Federation (Ferwacy) is set to increase the number of local competitions this year in order to boost the level of local riders, preparing them for international contests.

Samson Ndayishimiye, the federation’s president, told Times Sport that they are set to introduce five new competitions to keep riders in good shape in various categories.

“This will raise the level of cycling in the country and increase the competitiveness among the riders. I believe this will help us develop better riders in the future,” he noted.

He pointed out that they are seeking sponsorships so that they can organise monthly competitions, as he expressed optimism that such contests will attract many riders.

“They need to race more to stay in shape for high-profile competitions,” he said, as he explained that though local riders do a lot of training, that alone is not enough to keep them in top shape.

The five competitions, which will start on March 30 in Musanze, will feature the Cross Country Olympic race. Then, the Race to Remember will take place on April 26 in Kigali, the Human Rights Race on May 10 in Rubavu, the Kibugabuga Race on June 7, from Kigali to Bugesera, and the National Road Race on June 20-21.
