Africa-Press – Rwanda. The President of Rwanda Football Association (FERWAFA), Fabrice Shema Ngoga, has assured Amavubi players and coaches that they will soon receive unpaid bonuses and allowances amounting to Rwf75 million.
The arrears include travel expenses and bonuses from the 1-1 draw against Lesotho. Coaches are also still owed part of their 2024 bonuses, which Shema promised will be settled soon. He further pledged that players would receive additional incentives if they defeat the Super Eagles of Nigeria, though he did not disclose the figures.
Speaking ahead of Rwanda’s 2026 World Cup qualifier against Nigeria on Saturday, September 6, in Uyo, Shema urged the players to remain focused despite recent setbacks.
“What I asked the players is that losing is not an option,” he said.
Rwanda, which once led their qualifying group, dropped to second after losing to Nigeria. They remain level on eight points with Benin, while Nigeria sit fourth with seven points. South Africa currently top the group with 13 points, pending FIFA’s decision on their alleged use of an ineligible player against Lesotho.
After facing Nigeria, Amavubi will play their eighth group fixture against Zimbabwe on September 9 in South Africa. Lesotho currently have six points, while Zimbabwe sit bottom with four.
