Former volleyball player Faysal Safari passes away

Africa-Press – Rwanda. Faysal Safari, a former volleyball player, passed away on the morning of Thursday, October 20, reports indicate.

It is reported that he was earlier severely wounded, in a bar, by a man whose identity is not yet verified.

By press time, on Thursday, October 20, Times Sports’ efforts to get comment from the Rwanda Investigate Bureau (RIB) Spokesperperson Thierry Murangira had yielded nothing.

Sources indicate that the 39-year-old was ambushed and severely wounded by a man with whom they had disputes sometime back in an incident that took place in bar in his hometown, Rubavu.

The veteran was earlier hospitalized at Kigali University Teaching Hospital (CHUK). He was transferred there in a critical condition on October 16.

“With overwhelming pain in our hearts, one of our athletes has sadly passed away,” Jean Claude Ntakirutimana, a former Volleyball Club partner, said.

Safari played for top local clubs like Umubano Blue Tigers, College Inyemeramihigo INATEK, and College Christ Roi Nyanza.

Safari who was the first player from Rubavu to play in the top division for Umubano Blue Tigers.

During his career Safari won the National Beach Volleyball tourney twice, in 2004 and 2005. He won the Interscolaire title in 2006 with Colleague Christ Roi and the inter-university title in 2012, with UNATEK.

After finishing his Bachelor’s Degree at the University of Agricultural Technology and Education of Kibungo (UNATEK), he returned to his hometown, Rubavu, and coached youngsters in Rubavu and Inyemeramihigo Secondary School.
