Africa-Press – Rwanda. Gicumbi FC have secured a promotion back to Rwanda Premier League after beating La Jeunesse 2-0 in match day 5 of the second division playoffs held at Mumena Stadium on Wednesday, April 30.
Goals from Stephanie Ngondo and Peter earned the visitors three points which were enough to earn one of the two spots which are up for grabs in the top tier league.
Gicumbi FC, who last played topflight football during the 2021-22 season, stay top of the playoffs table with 9 points with one match to play. They are followed by AS Muhanga who climbed from bottom up to second place after beating Etoile de l’Est 1-0 at Ngoma Stadium.
After their losses, Etoile and La Jeunesse dropped to third and fourth positions respectively with five points each.
One more ticket to Rwanda Premier League remains up for grabs and AS Muhanga, La Jeunesse and Etoile still stand a chance to be promoted to top division.
AS Muhanga will host La Jeunesse FC at Muhanga Stadium while Étoile de l’Est FC will take on Gicumbi FC at Ngoma Stadium. Both matches will take place on May 4.
