Gukesh makes strong comeback, wins Round 3 of World Chess Championship 2024

Africa-Press – Rwanda. GM Gukesh Dommaraju on Wednesday won the third game of the 2024 FIDE World Championship Match, equalised the score of the match at 1.5-1.5, ahead of rest day on Thursday, November 28.

When the 2024 FIDE World Championship between defending World Champion Ding Liren and Challenger Gukesh Dommaraju started, earlier on Monday, Gukesh, who had White squandered time advantage to eventually lose the first round.

On Wednesday, however, Ding folded after 37 moves, with Gukesh bouncing back in style to restore parity.

The Chinese lost on time.

Game 3 of the FIDE World Championship Match 2024 kicks off with Olivier Lim, the Chairman of the Singapore Tourism Board, making the ceremonial first move, on Wednesday, November 27.

The second game, on Tuesday, ended in a draw.

The youngest World Championship challenger again had White in the third round.

If the 18-year-old from Chennai beats Ding Liren of China, after 14 classical games, he will become not just the 18th World Champion but also the youngest in history, breaking the record set by Garry Kasparov in 1985.
