Handball: Sindayigaya commends Rwanda U20 despite Zone V final loss

Africa-Press – Rwanda. Rwanda U20 coach Aphrodice Sindayigaya has said that his youthful side has a good future despite falling short against Kenya in the final of the just-concluded IHF Trophy Africa/Zone V in Kampala, Uganda.

Rwanda U20 lost 42-37 at the hands of eventual winners Kenya but Sindayigaya could only pick positives from his women’s side which he believes can become a better version of themselves in the near future if they are to have more competitions going forward.

“This is a learning lesson for us but also good experience for the young ladies. I am happy with their performance. We wanted to win the trophy but it was not easy but, all in all, the girls showed a good level of handball and I am happy with them,” Sindayigaya said.

“We need to have more young players who can compete at youth level in Rwanda which can help to improve the level of playing as long as they have many games to play. It will also be good to keep on playing such tournaments which raise the level of the game,” he added

Rwanda, who had reached the final after eliminating the host team Uganda, ended the first half trailing Kenya 21-17. Kenya increased their chance of winning the trophy by adding 21 more goals against Rwanda’s 20 in the second half as they went on to win the match 42-37. This marked a double of wins for the Kenyans who also beat Rwanda 32-29 in the group stages.

Meanwhile, Rwanda U18 finished in fourth place after losing to Tanzania 40-31 in the third-place match.
