Kayumba eyes revenge against former side Rayon Sports

Africa-Press – Rwanda. Mukura VS deputy skipper Soter Kayumba has said that the only best revenge that he wishes for former club Rayon Sports is beating them when the pair face off at Huye Stadium on match day 25 of the Primus National League on Saturday, March 30.

Rayon Sports thrashed Mukura VS 4-1 at Kigali Pele Stadium on November 4, 2023 through goals from Kevin Muhire, Arouna Musa Madjaliwa, Heritier Luvumbu and Emmanuel Mvuyekure with Elie Tatou Iradukunda scoring the consolation for the Huye-based side.

Mukura, currently fourth on the table, have had mixed fortunes in the league recently, winning two out of their last five outings, but Kayumba insists he and his teammates have adequately prepared for the crunch encounter as they vow to upset Rayon Sports in what looks like the battle of the top two with runaway league leaders APR FC finding themselves in a seemingly one-horse race.

“We know we have a big game against Rayon Sports, they beat us in the first round, now it’s time to take revenge,” Kayumba told Times Sport.

The first round match between the two sides was marred by refereeing controversies after centre referee Claude Ishimwe awarded the Blues a debatable penalty following a blatant dive by Joackiam Ojera.

Kayumba, who played for Rayon Sports between December 2019 and July 2021, urged his team mates to take a cue from the controversial refereeing decisions from the first-round match in the first leg. He tasked them not to give up, but give all their best even in the events of questionable decisions.

“What happened in the first leg should be a lesson for us. We gave up after that debatable penalty. Now, what we have to do is to talk to the whole team so that we be strong in the game. In case refereeing is bad, we have to continue with our goal which is to win. I think this match will be different than before,” the experienced centre back said.

Mukura VS are fourth on the league table with 39 points from 24 games whereas Rayon Sport are second with 45 points.
