Africa-Press – Rwanda. Rwanda women’s national basketball team coach Cheikh Sarr has added American-born forward Keisha Hampton to his provisional squad for the 2026 FIBA Women’s World Cup pre-qualifying tournament.
The qualifier take place in Kigali from August 19-25.
Hampton, 34, currently plays for the Chicago Sky in the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA). She also previously played for the Minnesota Lynx.
Her skills and experience will be a boost for Rwanda as Sarr prepares a team ready enough to battle with world’s top teams in the pre-qualifiers.
Rwanda was drawn into Group D, alongside Great Britain, Argentina, and Lebanon.
Kigali will host the pre-qualifiers for Groups C and D, while Mexico City will host the Group A and B games.
The top two teams from each group will advance to the semi-finals of their respective pre-qualifiers. The winners of each tournament will then qualify for the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup qualifying tournaments scheduled for 2026.
Provisional Squad: Assouma Uwizeye, Bella Murekatete, Celine De Roy, Chantal Kiyobe, Charlotte Umugwaneza, Destiney Philoxy, Hope Butera, Joyeuse Sifa Ineza, Nicole Urwibutso, Odille Tetero, Rosine Micomyiza, Sabine Mugeni and Sandra Kantore.
