Police FC head into Friday’s Rwanda Premier League encounter against struggling AS Kigali knowing that victory will take them to 19 points, six ahead of second-placed Rayon Sports, who face APR on Saturday at Amahoro Stadium.
After six matches, Police remain unbeaten, having won five and drawn one, topping the table with 16 points. Meanwhile, AS Kigali have endured a difficult start to the season, collecting only four points from six games.
“It’s possible for us to win, but we have to be prepared,” said Police FC head coach Ben Moussa.
Winning a first-ever league title for Police FC remains Moussa’s ultimate goal, and he could become the first coach to deliver the historic achievement since the club’s establishment in 2005.
“We respect every opponent, and we are taking the AS Kigali game very seriously,” he said.
AS Kigali will be looking to bounce back from a 3-0 defeat to SC Kiyovu last weekend.
“Just because Police are top of the table doesn’t make them automatic favourites,” said AS Kigali captain Haruna Niyonzima, a former APR midfielder. “The game will be open. Our goal is to minimise mistakes from the start. We can win if we play our game well.”
