With the title already out of their reach, Gasogi United captain Akbar Muderi has said that the club has set themselves a target to finish in the top 5 with seven games remaining in the Rwanda Premier League.
Gasogi are currently in 10th place with 27 points before they take on Police FC at Kigali Pele Stadium on Friday. A win would move them into the eighth place which Muderi feels would suffice for a club whose performance has been up and down this campaign.
“It (top 5 finish) is still possible compared to the matches we have ahead. We dropped many points in the second round, we had a problem of inconsistency but we sat down and discussed our problems and now we have gained confidence to improve in the next matches so that we can end the season with a better position,” Muderi told Times Sport.
Muderi admitted that his side’s performance has been below par in recent matches but he promised to improve in their remaining fixtures starting with Police FC.
“We know Police are a strong team and they have showed it since the starting of the season, especially in the Peace Cup, but we are aware of that and we are ready for the battle against them. our aim is to finish in a better position; we can finish in the top five and it is possible” he noted.
APR lead the table with 48 points, just a point clear of second-placed Rayon Sports. The two arch rivals are locked in the title race which is getting tight match after match.
APR will face Etincelles on Sunday while Muhazi United will welcome Rayon Sports at Ngoma Stadium.
