Murenzi, Rwabusaza to vie for Ferwacy presidency

Africa-Press – Rwanda. Local cycling federation (Ferwacy) is awaiting who, between Abdallah Murenzi and Thierry Rwabusaza, will become the next president of the federation for the next four years ahead of elections for anew executive committee slated for May 28.

Rwabusaza, who is currently a member of Club Les Amis Sportifs, formerly served Ferwacy as the Secretary General until December 2019, when he and the entire executive committee, led by former president Aimable Bayingana, resigned after two years in office over claims of misappropriation of funds in the federation.

Murenzi inherited the federation on an interim role until his term expired in March this year. The former Mayor of Nyanza District is not new in the sports industry having previously been in club administration as Rayon Sports president during the club’s 2012/13 league title-winning campaign.

He was also President of the ‘normalization’ interim committee for a period of 30 days in 2020 after club’s Executive committee, led by Sadate Munyakazi, was dismissed by Rwanda Governance Board (RGB) to end controversies that surrounded the club’s management.
