Mwinuka vows to inspire Tigers into playoffs after shocking REG

Africa-Press – Rwanda. After stunning Rwanda Energy Group (REG) with a 76-74 victory on Sunday, everybody at Tigers Basketball Club have all their eyes set on securing a playoffs berth, according to club head coach Henry Mwinuka.

Tigers’ victory against REG saw them climb to fourth place on the league standings with 17 points where they are level on points with Patriots who have played a game less. This means that they are currently within reach of the playoffs should they keep their impressive run in their remaining matches of the regular season.

Mwinuka is leading Tigers’ transformation since being appointed new coach before the beginning of the season.

Speaking to Times Sport, the experienced Tanzanian tactician said the team is now building its chemistry well and the players are starting to follow his coaching philosophy, adding that the goal is to be consistent and continue performing well.

“To stay in the top four, it will not be an easy task especially in the second round, but we will keep working hard to improve our game plan and try to do better in every game,” he said in an interview.

Mwinuka has a vast experience in Rwandan basketball, having previously coached top domestic powerhouses like REG and Patriots. He also served as the national team head coach on an interim basis.

The Rwanda Basketball League (RBL) regular season is advancing towards the playoffs, with teams remaining with few games to go. For example, the Tigers have seven games to close the season.

Tigers are on a 6-5 record from 11 games played so far this season. Next up for Mwinuka’s side is Orion on Friday, April 4. Orion has also been a great team this season, as they now sit in the sixth place.
