Africa-Press – Rwanda. Japanese player Kazuki Nakajima and China’s Liu Xiang wrapped up their ITF World Tennis Tour Juniors (J60) in Kigali on a high note after completing back-to-back title victories in Saturday’s finals held at IPRC-Kigali Ecology Tennis Club.
Kazuki won the second week title after overcoming Israel’s Alexander Groat in three tense sets 6-4 3-6 6-3 while Xiang reclaimed the title after beating India’s Jannat Chiripal in two sets 6-1 6-2 in the final.
The victories also meant both players completed a remarkable double, having clinched the singles titles in the first week of the tournament as well.
Chiripal, who had previously won the J30 Kigali tournament in May, didn’t go home empty handed after she and her singles final rival Xiang teamed up to beat Israel’s Shira Dvir and China’s Ada Yan Shihong 6-3 7-5 in the doubles final that took place on Friday.
The boys’ doubles title went to top seeds Juliusz Stańczyk and Eaden-Zack Harron of the USA, who won it by walkover after their opponents, Amerigo Ambrosi and Kasra Nathaniel Shirazi, were unable to compete.
Ambrosi couldn’t report to the court due to illness. He also missed his semifinal game against Groet, leaving the latter set up a final with Nakajima by walkover.
The biggest winner of the ITF World Tennis Tour Juniors in Kigali was Xiang who won both the singles and doubles titles for two weeks.
