Africa-Press – Rwanda. Veteran midfielder Haruna Niyonzima has terminated his contract with Rayon Sports after the club failed to fulfill its financial obligations, sources have told Times Sport.

The Rwanda international, who rejoined Rayon Sports from Libyan side Al Taawon after his contract expired on June 30, had been promised certain payments but were not delivered.

Niyonzima’s return to Rayon Sports marked a comeback 17 years after his departure from the club. He was unveiled during the team’s “Rayon Sports Day” on August 3, where he expressed his gratitude for the fans’ warm welcome.

But, recently, informed Rayon Sports management that he would no longer participate in team activities until the club fulfill their promises made to him. As a result, he did not feature in the club’s 2-2 draw against Amagaju in the Rwanda Premier League.

Times Sport understands that the club rescheduled his payments twice but failed to pay Niyonzima, who ultimately requested to be released, claiming that, if the club is unable to pay him.

On September 6, both the player and Rayon Sports mutually agreed to terminate his contract, and the club issued him a release clause.
