Nkundabera Wins First National Cycling Championship

Africa-Press – Rwanda. Les Amis Sportifs rider Eric Nkundabera claimed the 2025 National Cycling Championship after winning Sunday’s the men’s road race. It was his first victory at the race.

Nkundabera crossed the finish line in Gasanze, Gasabo District, after covering the distance of 162 kilometers in 4 hours 13 minutes and 48 seconds beating May Star’s Jérémie Ngendahayo who came in second place with 4 hours 14 minutes eight seconds and Eric Muhoza of Team Amani in third place with 4 hours 14 minutes and 9 seconds.

Vainquer Masengesho (Benediction) came on fourth with 4 hours 14 minutes and nine seconds, Samuel Niyonkuru (Team Amani) finished on fifth 4 hours 14 minutes and 10 seconds while star rider Moise Mugisha of Benediction Cycling Club finished on seventh with 4:14:13.

In women’s elite category, Djazilla Mwamikazi of Ndabaga Cycling Team won the 126-kilometer race in 3 hours 13 minutes and 25 seconds.

Fresh from UCI training camp in France, Mwamikazi wins Rwanda Championship 2025 rode her way to the finish line in Gasanze, outsprinting Diane Ingabire Germany-based club Canyon Sram while Xaveline Nirere of Kenya-based Team Amani came in third place five seconds behind the race winner.

Elsewhere, Moïse Ntirenganya, now riding for Les Amis Sportifs, won the race in the junior men’s race after doing 126km in 3 hours and three seconds. He beat the likes of Individual Time Trial (ITT) winner Didier Twagirayezu of Kayonza Cycling Team (+01 second) and Nyabihu Cycling Team’s Jackson Nkurikiyinka who crossed the finish line two seconds later.

In the women junior category, Yvonne Masengesho was the first to cross the line to win the race after racing 53.6km in 1 hour 23 minutes 42 seconds.
