Africa-Press – Rwanda. Nyabihu Cycling Team rider Jackson Nkurikiyinka claimed second stage victory of the 2025 Rwanda Junior Tour after completing the 51.9 km route, crossing the finish line at INES Ruhengeri in Musanze in 1 hour, 31 minutes, and 45 seconds.
Although Nkurikiyinka won the stage, it was Didier Twagirayezu who claimed the yellow jersey, taking it away from Brian Ishimwe, the winner of the opening stage, which covered 90 km from Batsinda to Rulindo.
The second day of the junior tour brought together 31 riders aged between 17 and 19 years. Stage two kicked off in Nyirangarama and passed through Base, Gakenke, Buranga, Kivuruga, and Musanze before concluding at INES Ruhengeri.
On day one, the top nine riders finished with no significant time gap behind Ishimwe, who clocked 2 hours, 38 minutes, and 12 seconds. This gave Twagirayezu an opportunity to move into the overall classification after he finished right behind Nkurikiyinka in stage two, with just microseconds between the two.
“There wasn’t a big-time gap between me and Brian Ishimwe (the stage one winner), so I believed I had a chance. I’m happy with today’s victory, even if I didn’t get the yellow jersey,” said 17-year-old Nkurikiyinka.
Meanwhile, Ishimwe, who won the opening stage, finished Stage Two in 11th place, trailing Nkurikiyinka by 1 minute and 9 seconds.
