Africa-Press – Rwanda. Nyamagabe District will set aside Rwf 3 billion for the upgrade works of Nyagisenyi Stadium, district Vice-Mayor in charge of economic development Thaddée Habimana has said.
The renovations will see the facility’s capacity rise to 10,000 up from 6,000 seats.
According to Habimana, a tender for the renovation and expansion of Nyagisenyi Stadium will be issued in 2026 with the works set to start tentatively in July.
“It (renovation works) was supposed to start this year, but we decided to shift it next year due to the budget constraints,” Habimana told Times Sport.
The renovation will be in three phases with each phase set to cost Rwf 1 billion. Phase 1 will see the contractor set up the artificial turf while the changing rooms will be built in the second phase. The final phase will include the upgrade of seating area, roofing, and finishing, among others.
“We have developed the concepts, and the next step is the feasibility study. Our plan is to make sure that we have a good stadium for our people, that’s why we shifted to next year budget because we realized that this year’s budget was not enough to do it.”
Nyagisenyi Stadium is home to top tier side Amagaju FC. The club is currently hosting its games either at Kamena Stadium or Huye Stadium.
Promoted to the topflight league in 2023, Amagaju FC currently sit in ninth place with 29 points.
