Africa-Press – Rwanda. Nyanza Bus Park in Kicukiro District will temporarily relocate to Canal Olympia at Rebero as its current location will form part of the race routes for the 2025 UCI Road World Championships, Rwanda National Police has announced.
The bus park is located along the highway from Kigali to Bugesera, part of which will be used by cyclists during the race scheduled for September 21-28.
The Kigali race will be the first edition of the UCI Road World Championships to be hosted on African soil.
According to projections, this year’s championships will attract a cumulative television audience of more than 330 million viewers worldwide.
If achieved, this will mark the largest audience in the history of the event, surpassing the 329 million recorded in Yorkshire, England, in 2019.
Speaking on Rwanda Broadcasting Agency channels, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Boniface Rutikanga, Spokesperson for the Rwanda National Police, said the temporary relocation of Nyanza Bus Park is among the planned measures to ensure safety and smooth organization of the race.
“Due to the race routes, Nyanza Bus Park in Kicukiro will be moved to Canal Olympia for the days when the routes in the area are in use,” Rutikanga said.
During the race, major roads in Kigali will closed to public transport, schools will not open and most public servants will work from home.
“This championship is not intended to disrupt people’s lives in Kigali, as alternative routes will be provided. We shall share the details in due course. After the race, transport services will resume in the Kicukiro Bus Park,” he explained.
The Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) has confirmed that the championships will be broadcast in 124 countries and carried on 22 international TV channels, with Rwanda Television (RTV) serving as the host broadcaster.
Beyond traditional broadcasting, digital audiences are also expected to contribute significantly.
