Africa-Press – Rwanda. Rwanda and Uganda have expressed their commitment to rekindle their strong relationship through sports, with tennis being the latest tool to unite the two countries.

A two-day tennis competition was held in Kampala over the weekend from April 26-27 bring together members of Nyarutarama Tennis Club from Rwanda and Kampala Club in a friendly game.

The games were held in various categories such as women’s singles and men’s singles, men’s doubles, women’s doubles and 9 mixed doubles and it was Nyarutarama Tennis Club who came out on top with 29 points against Kampala Club’s 27.

After the competition, both clubs were received by Rwandan envoy to Uganda Col. Joseph Rutabana who also participated in the competition where he teamed up with Dr Richard Munyaneza in the men’s doubles.

Celebrating the importance of the tournament, Nyarutarama Tennis Club president Bart Gasana thanked everyone who participated to make the event a success, saying it was more than just a competition but also a platform for socialization and networking.

“I thank everyone who took part in the games and I appreciate the support from everyone during the games and during the networking session. The Kampala-Kigali fete was great,” said Gasana

The event in Kampala served as a return leg after the Kampala Club visited the Nyarutarama Tennis Club for a similar competition in February 2023 at Nyarutarama Tennis Court.

On his part, President of the Kampala Club Elliott Ainomugisha also said, ” I appreciate everyone who made this event a success. Kampala Club is ready to return the favor by visiting the Nyarutarama Club and we are looking forward to that moment.’’

The event was concluded with an exhibition match between two Davis Cup players where Uganda’s Frank Tayebwa beat Rwanda’s Joshua Muhire in two straight sets 7-5, 6-4.
