Organisers promise safe Tour du Rwanda 2025

Africa-Press – Rwanda. Organisers of Tour du Rwanda have assured fan of a safe and enjoyable race in Rubavu just like in other parts of the country despite ongoing conflict between the DR Congo government and AFC/M23 rebels.

The 17th edition of the race will be staged from February 23 to March 2 across all four provinces of the country and the City of Kigali.

The fighting recently affected Rwandans in the western part of the country, especially Rubavu which borders with DR Congo in Goma but, as the race approaches, organisers, in a statement released on Tuesday, February 6, allayed fears that “all measures have been taken to ensure that this doesn’t happen again.”

They further explained that people are going about their usual activities across Rwanda so there is no cause for alarm.

“Life in Rubavu and all across Rwanda continues as normal. Therefore, the Tour du Rwanda can proceed without any alteration to the schedule and riders, teams and supporters can be assured of a safe and enjoyable event,” it added.

Tour du Rwanda which has been going on since 1988 is among the biggest cycling competitions in the world.

The 2024 edition was won by British national Joseph Blackmore who competes for Israel-Premier Tech.
