Patriots basketball club leapfrogged champions APR to move at the top of Rwanda Basketball League table after beating United Generation Basketball (UGB) 81-78 on Wednesday night at Lycée de Kigali (LDK) Gymnasium.

Patriots finished the first round of the league campaign unbeaten as the lead table of the league with 18 points, a point clear of APR who dropped to second place while Rwanda Energy Group (REG) finished is in third place with 14 points.
Espoir claimed the fifth position with 12 points after defeating Inspire Generation 96-71 in another game on Wednesday at LDK Gymnasium.
Hoops League: Patriots eye UGB win to finish first round unbeaten
It was a William Perry and Steven Hagumintwari affair as the duo again stole the show against Yves Murenzi’ side, contributing a combined 38 points for Henry Mwinuka’s side which is the unbeaten team in their last nine games so far this campaign.
Patriots won the first quarter 24-13 but UGB bounced back and won the second quarter 21-15.
Back in the second half, UGB continued to pose a big threat in Patriots’ paint, claiming the third quarter 29-16 before Patriots roared back to take the fourth quarter 26-15 hence wrapping up the game by a three-point margin with an 81-78 win.
