Africa-Press – Rwanda. Patriots basketball club head coach Henry Mwinuka has said his side is ready and in good shape for the upcoming league campaign.

The 2024 Rwanda Basketball League season will tip off on February 9.

The Patriots finished in fourth place last season, losing the championship to APR.

Mwinuka told Times Sport that his side is returning to action with new ambitions ahead of the new season after weeks of preparations.

“I can confirm we are ready for the new season. We have prepared well and I am very happy for the team I have right now,”he said.

“We have had enough in the last few weeks. Players are in great shape and upbeat for the new season.”

Recently, Patriots added Chadian power forward Frank Kamndoh to their roster after signing him from United Generation Basketball (UGB) on a three-year deal.

While in the colors of UGB in 2023, Kamndoh registered the highest number of blocks with 59. He also made 269 rebounds, playing a key role in helping the team to an eighth-place finish.

Patriots failed to impress during the 2023 season, which was arguably their worst season in seven years. They were eliminated from last year’s playoffs at the semi-final stage, after suffering three straight losses in the best of five series, at the hands of APR.

It was the first time since 2016 that the team had failed to reach the finals of the playoffs.

What may be even more interesting is how they were swept within a three straight losing run, despite having made huge player transfer business in the likes of Michael Dixon, Jean-Victor Mukama and center Ater Majok among other major trades going into the playoffs.
