Africa-Press – Rwanda. Wednesday, April 30
APR vs Police: 3PM
Rayon vs Mukura: 6PM
Venue: Amahoro Stadium
All roads will Wednesday lead to Amahoro Stadium which is hosting two Peace Cup semifinals matches that will decide who advance into the final.
APR FC welcome Police FC at 3PM before Rayon Sports lock horns with Mukura VS at 6PM.
APR and Police played out a 1-1 draw in the first leg match held at Kigali Pele Stadium on April 15 while Rayon traveled to hold Mukura VS to a 1-1 draw in a match that was played twice due to power outage.
APR have an away goal rule advantage ahead of holders Police FC. Darko Novic side is taking the match seriously as he looks to win the cup to avoid missing out on African club football competitions next season.
His side not guaranteed to win the league title yet as they trail arch rivals Rayon Sports by one points with five match remaining to play and a Peace Cup would be a good shot for the army side, though it has rarely been their priority during the past half-decade or so.
There is a lot at stake from the second leg outcome with Vincent Mashami is, on the other hand, looking to retain the trophy which probably remains his only card to keep his job.
Mukura VS out to pull another upset on Rayon
Rayon’s most recent match against Mukura at Amahoro Stadium was one to forget as the Huye-based side traveled to beat them 1-0 and blow their title hopes.
Lofti Afahmia and his charges are unbeaten against the Blues during their last three meetings this season. Aside the pair’s 1-1 draw in the cup first leg in Huye, Mukura remain the only team to have beaten Rayon Sports in both rounds of the league, and they will be looking to make it a hat trick of wins which would end their hopes of winning the double to an end.
“We are ready for the game; we know that Rayon Sports are tough opponents whom we respect but we do not fear them. This is an important game which we want to win and reach to the final; hopefully we will win it,” Lotti said.
However, Rayon Sports caretaker Claude Rwaka believes he now has a good side ready to win the crunch game and reach the final for the second time in three years.
“This game means a lot to us, we want to win the game because we want to reach the final. I know Mukura is good team but we want to make our fans happy with a victory today,” said the former Rayon Sports women coach.
It is reported that, every Rayon player will receive bonuses worth Rwf200,000 if they win the game. Mukura VS management also pledged to reward every player Rwf400.000 if they manage to eliminate Rayon Sports.
Rayon won the Peace Cup 10 times with their most recent in 2023 while Mukura’s most recent Peace Cup glory was in 2018 when they beat Rayon Sports 3-1 on penalties. Both teams had played goalless draw after extra time.
The cup winners represent Rwanda in the CAF Confederation Cup.
