Africa-Press – Rwanda. Police Volleyball Club emerged victorious in both the men’s and women’s categories of the third edition of the 2025 Liberation Cup, defeating APR in thrilling finals held at Petit Stade Indoor Gymnasium on Sunday, July 7.

The law enforcers won the men’s trophy after defeating rivals APR in the tie break of the five-set thriller (22-25, 25-22, 25-20, 22-25 15-10).

APR started strongly and took the first set 25-22 before Police responded aggressively to win the second set 25-22 and the third 25-20 for the lead.

But APR refused to back down and brought the scores level after taking the fourth set 25-22 to send the match into the tiebreak but Police kept their heads up and put in a show to win the set 15-10 and clinch their first Liberation Cup trophy.

“We didn’t have time to relax. Yesterday (Saturday), we beat REG in tie-break sets and the same happened to us against APR. We did it because we really want to win this Liberation Cup,” Musoni told the press after the match.

The men’s team completed a Liberation Cup double after the women’s team, coached by Christian Hatumimana, beat APR in four sets 18-25, 25-10, 25-19, 25-19 to claim the trophy.

“The secret behind this is to understand ourselves, from our weaker sides to our strengths,” he said. “As we’re going to rest to prepare for the next season, we’re going to review our squad, seeking any additions to come back stronger.”

Kepler VC teams won the third place after defeating Rwanda Energy Group (REG) in four sets in the men’s category and Rwanda Revenue Authority (RRA) in women’s fray.
