Africa-Press – Rwanda. Rayon Sports will face Tanzanian side Singida Big Stars in the first round of the CAF Confederation Cup according to the draw held in Dar es Slaam, Tanzania on Saturday, August 9.
Rayon will visit Singida in Tanzania for the first leg scheduled for September 19–21 before the pair play the return leg in Kigali between September 26-28.
The second qualifying round will be played on October 17-19 for the first leg, while the second leg will be played on October 24-26.
The winner of the two legs will face the winner between Flambeau du Centre (Burundi) and a yet to be confirmed team from the Libyan Premier League which is yet to conclude.
Rayon Sports will be trying to recreate their spectacular moments from 2018, by returning to the competition’s group stages for the first time since then.
For the first time, the CAF competition will feature 120 teams, including 62 in the CAF Champions League and 58 in the CAF Confederation Cup.
The teams that emerge from the first qualifying round this year will each receive $100,000 (about Rwf144 million) aimed at helping them prepare for the competition.
The 62 teams that will play in the CAF Champions League, the highest in the competition’s history, only two will not play in the first qualifying round. These are Al Ahly of Egypt and Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa.
