Amagaju FC Vs Muhazi United (Huye Stadium)
Kick-off: 3pm
It will be a game of life or death when Amagaju FC host Muhazi United in the final game of the Rwanda Premier League on Wednesday afternoon at Huye Stadium.
Amagaju are in the 14th place with 33 points, while Muhazi United trail in 15th place, three points behind the former prior to the crunch encounter.
A draw would be enough for Amagaju to stay in the top division, while Muhazi United will only need to win the match to avoid relegation.
Playing at home puts Amagaju FC in pole position to win the game but club head coach Amars Niyongabo has ruled out the possibility of being relegated to the second division league, saying that Muhazi United are a big opponent which can cause havoc.
“It is a match of life or death, so we need to be prepared mentally and physically. We have to give 100% because this is the only match remaining, which means everyone will give their all to remain in the top division. We know Muhanzi United will come here looking to win the game, but we are ready for the challenge,” Niyomugabo said
The Burundian coach admitted that his side has “not been consistent in the last matches, which has cost us some big points. We should have done better, but we have to forget the past and look forward to this match; we need these three points at any cost and I believe we can.”
Prior to the match, Amagaju filed a case to the Rwanda Football Federation (Ferwafa), requesting them to deduct points on Muhazi United over fielding an ineligible player who had accumulated three yellow cards.
The Nyamagabe-based club claimed that Muhazi’s Serge Murangamirwa was supposed to serve a one-match suspension, having received three yellow cards but he was still used in the match against Vision on 15 February 2025.
Muhazi United went on to win the match 1-0.
However, Muhazi United president said that his side is only focused on the crunch tie. He laughed off Amagaju’s claim which he instead described as ‘mind game.’
However, the FA promised to look into the matter where Muhazi, if found guilty, may face three-point deduction as provided for by the law’s penalty clause in article 40.2 be applied.
The development would see the Rwamagana-based side be relegated to the second division even if they beat Amagaju FC.
