Africa-Press – Rwanda. Rutsiro FC have handed suspensions to their head coach Moussa Gatera and Congolese goalkeeper Arnold Matumele for the remainder of the 2024/25 season.

In a statement released on Monday, April 28, the club management explained that the decision to suspend Gatera and Mutemele was taken due to what was termed as ‘poor performance’ during Saturday’s 5-0 humiliating defeat at the hands of APR at Umuganda Stadium on Saturday, April 26.

It was a match during which Rutsiro shot stopper Matumele gifted two goals to the visitors, leaving questions over his goalkeeping attitude.

Gatera had accused his players of deliberately letting APR win the match as the win powered them at the top of the table. However, the club questioned his tactics as well as Matumele’s goalkeeping, leading them to slap suspensions to the duo.

“Rutsiro FC informs its fans and football fans in general that it has temporarily suspended head coach Gatera Moussa and goalkeeper Matumele for the remainder of the season,” the club said in a statement on Monday, April 28.

In Gatera’s absence, Omar Rubangura will take charge of the club in the subsequent games. His first match on the touchline will be against league leaders Rayon Sports on match day 26 encounter in Kigali.

Rutsiro FC currently sit 4th on the league table with 37 points.
