Africa-Press – Rwanda. Leonard Nhamburo and his Rwanda women side kicked off the 2025 Kwibuka Women’s T20 tournament with a commanding 91-run victory over Cameroon in the opening match held at Gahanga Cricket Stadium on Monday, June 2.

The tournament, hosted by Rwanda Cricket Association (RCA) to commemorate victims of the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi, saw the hosts get off to a strong start with a dominant win over the Cameroonian team which was making its debut to the showpiece.

Rwanda opted to bat first and posted a remarkable 145 runs for 4 in their 20 overs, led by a brilliant unbeaten 52 from Shakila Niyomuhoza off 45 balls. She was well-supported by Sarah Uwera, who contributed 38 runs from 48 balls.

Cameroon struggled to build any momentum against the Rwandan team led by coach Leornard Nhamburo’s disciplined bowling attack and were bowled out for just 54 runs.

In other matches, Zimbabwe edged out Nigeria Women in a closely contested encounter, posting 105/8 in their allotted 20 overs before restricting Nigeria to 98/7, sealing a narrow 6-run victory.
