Rwanda face Kenya after slow start to CECAFA U17

Africa-Press – Rwanda. After a disappointing start to CECAFA U17, Sosthene Habimana’s Rwanda U17 will be looking to bounce back when they face Kenya U17 Abebe Bikila Stadium in Addis Ababa on Friday, November 21.

Rwanda lost 2-0 to hosts Ethiopia in the opening match of the tournament which serves as a qualifying round of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) CECAFA U17.

Habimana admits that his team did not play well in the first game but he believes the defeat was a learning lesson and he now hopes that his boys can come back stronger against Kenya.

“We are not worried about our current position despite losing to Ethiopia, which we know was not good result. So we have to make sure we go for the game against Kenya with all energy to secure points,” Habimana said.

Ethiopia now lead Group A with six points after two matches, while Somalia are second with 2 points, and Kenya third with 1 point. South Sudan are in 4th place while Rwanda find themselves at the bottom of the log but a win on Friday will see them climb to second.

The top three teams in the CECAFA U17 tournament will automatically qualify for the 2026 AFCON U17 in Morocco.
