Africa-Press – Rwanda. Rwanda is set to send a new contingent of armed forces to Mozambique’s Cabo Delgado Province to replace the one that has served there over the past one year.
The new contingent of the Rwanda Security Forces (RSF) will be under the command of Maj Gen Vincent Gatama.
Since 2022, at the request of the Mozambican government, Rwanda deployed forces to Cabo Delgado Province, Mozambique, to help combat ISIS-linked terrorism and insecurity.
In collaboration with Mozambican forces, Rwandan troops dislodged the terror group from several towns including their main bases in Mocimboa da Praia and other localities that include Awasse, Palma, Quionga, Chinda, Mbau, Mpalanganha, Tete, Njama, Quelimane, and Siri.
IGP Sano briefs the police contingent ahead of its deployment to Cabo Delgado.
On September 13, at Rwanda Military Academy in Gako, Maj Gen Vincent Nyakarundi, the Army Chief of Staff of Rwanda Defence Force (RDF), together with Commissioner of Police Vincent Sano, Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of Operations, briefed members of the new contingent that is set to go to Mozambique.
During the briefing, Nyakarundi conveyed a message from President Paul Kagame, emphasising the importance of maintaining discipline and momentum that the RSF has demonstrated over the past four years.
He also commended the achievements of previous contingents, stressing that such high standards must continue to be upheld.
The troops were reminded that commitment and discipline are essential to the success of operations aimed at supporting the Mozambican state authority through combat operations and security sector reform.
In his remarks, Commissioner of Police Vincent Sano urged the forces to foster teamwork at all times and avoid any misconduct that could damage Rwanda’s reputation.
